Those long Summer days are officially on their way and we have made a list of the top 5 best Summer walks in and around Stoke-on-Trent! There are some great walks to be discovered in Staffordshire perfect for you and the family!
Apedale Country Park –
With two routes available Apedale Country Park is a great one for the family. The 454 acre park located near Stoke-on-Trent is the newest in Staffordshire and offers a landscape of woodland and meadows to enjoy while basking in England’s Summer sun! The first walk is 1.25 miles and is more of a stroll, then walkers can opt to go on and complete the second route (2.25 miles) to explore more of the park. Both routes are slightly hilly at times and paths are a mix of tarmac and gravel.
Willots Woods –
Willots Woods also has two routes on offer for walkers, with the first being a circular stroll around the woodland full of British trees and greenery including trees such as Silver Birch, Hazel and Common Oak, as well as bluebells in the springtime.
The second route is slightly longer and still takes walkers through the woodland, then leads them on to an adventure deeper into the Park Hall Country Park until finally reaching Hulme Canyon.
Salt Line –
This 5km trail, taking around 1 hour to complete, is a very popular walk amongst the people of Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire so, expect to see lots of people on your adventure. The Salt Line route is family friendly and follows the route of an unused railway line. The route also has information boards on the wildlife and plants you will encounter on the way round.
Dimmingsdale –
Located beside the River Churnet and forming part of the Churnet Valley, Dimmingsdale offers a selection of different trails, each one as scenic as the next. The terrain is steep in some places but low level strolls around the magnificent pools are also available.
Make sure to stop off for a drink and snack at the Rambler’s Retreat which offers a wide range of refreshments in a relaxed setting.
Church Lawton Woods Circular –
The Church Lawton Woods Circular is an easy going walking route suitable for all abilities. Highlights of the walk include, stunning woodland trail, canal walk and farmers fields. The 4.5km trail is a popular trail for hiking, running, and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day.
