A Beach arrives at Smithfield!

Back to News

Yes, you read that right!

This summer, running until Tuesday 21st September 2021, Smithfield will be a hive of beach-based fun, activities and performance. Created by Appetite and Stoke-on-Trent City Council, the beach has friendly beach hosts on hand, deck chairs, picnic blankets, buckets & spades and beach games to borrow, providing lots of free family fun to be had in the heart of the City Centre.

Open daily from 10am – 5.30pm, there’s so much entertainment on offer. Let’s take a look at some highlights that we are looking forward to this week!

Kitsch n Sync

Kitsch n Sync are pioneers of all things vintage, retro and wonderfully absurd. They will be bringing their unique style of fun, family friendly dance theatre to the City Centre Beach. You can catch them on Thursday 26th August at 11am, 1pm, 3pm for free. Performances will be held on the grass around the beach and are suitable for all ages.

Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus is a theatre company with a unique interactive style which seamlessly blends comedy with the absurd. They will be bringing two of their much loved characters to City Centre Beach – a fortune teller and a mermaid!

Hocus Pocus will be there on Friday 27th August and on Saturday 28th August at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Performing on the beach and on the surrounding grass, the performance is also free and suitable for all ages.

Bohdan’s Poetry Station

Bohdan, in association with Keele University, presents the Poetry Station. Come along, have a chat and watch as a poem is written in front of your very eyes! Drop in anytime between 10:30am- 5pm on Friday 27th August.

Big Feast Screen

On Saturday 28th, you’ll find short films of family-friendly animations and dance live at the beach from 10:30am-4:30pm. A perfect weekend trip for the little ones!

The Vegetable Nannies

Plunge Boom creates interactive theatre for family audiences. The Vegetable Nannies is an                     intimate, interactive, walkabout performance piece featuring two proud gardeners who’ve dug up their prized baby vegetables to take them out for a day trip. After all, who wants to spend all day stuck in the ground staring at the sky? On Sunday 29th August, you’ll find The Vegetable Nannies performing at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

And there you have it!

There are some of our favourite bits we are looking forward to at the beach this week.
