Members from Smithfield Works joined community manager Adele Simmons for the annual Operation Sparkle – The Big Spring Clean – which is organised by Stoke-on-Trent (SOT) BID.
The litter picking and clean up afternoon took place at sites around the City Centre, including around the Smithfield Estate on Friday 28 March.
Volunteers from Barclays, Purple Digital Solutions, Centre Space Arts and Genr8 Developments – who are behind the £250m Smithfield mixed-used – gave up their time to assist SOT BID members filling around 40 bags of rubbish on the day.
Richard Buxton, SOT BID CEO, said: ”It’s fantastic to see organisations such as those at Smithfield take part in Operation Sparkle.
“We all have a duty to do our bit in keeping the city centre a pleasant environment, and the Smithfield team have proven year on year that they really do care by showing up for The Big Spring Clean.”
Adele says: “We are always keen to support SOT BID in their continuous work to do things in the City Centre which help others and Operation Sparkle is just one of those.
“It was also great to see some of our members giving up their own time out of their businesses and getting involved this time.
“During the litter pick we were able to also clear up a piece of land right opposite Smithfield Works and is a gateway into the cultural quarter, which now looks so much better and hopefully there will be more to come.”
Operation Sparkle usually takes place each year but more litter picks may be planned for later this year.
